Learning All About Auto Insurance Coverage

A car owner who seeks only safety for him and his passengers will surely be responsible enough to buy car insurance with a good coverage. When we think of a car insurance coverage, we often mistakenly assume it just includes damages to the car, and the liability of the insurance company to pay for the medical expenses of the driver and any passenger who have figured in a vehicular accident. However, the coverage of auto insurance can go beyond that.
Each company would be offering the standard coverage according to the insurance laws in the state the company’s branch is open for business. The standard coverage would surely include bodily injury liability, property damage liability, comprehensive auto insurance, collision, lease or loan policy, uninsured motorist, and medical expenses.

Bodily Injury and Property Damage Liability

The bodily injury liability pays for the injuries caused to others or death resulting from the vehicular accident. The property damage liability, likewise, pays for any damage caused to the property of others. The person who has bought the auto insurance must have caused the accident from which these liabilities arose. Both the bodily injury and property damage liability coverage features are subject to state laws and requirements. The terms of payment are set within insurance packages offered by the car insurance company.

Comprehensive Auto Insurance Coverage

A comprehensive auto insurance coverage, on one hand, covers all damages caused to the car aside from those arising from a collision. The causes to the damages to the car may have been fire, theft, vandalism, hitting an animal, flood, snow, storms, and other natural disasters. This coverage is especially necessary for a financed or leased car.
On the other hand, the collision coverage pays for the damages to your car when you hit a pole, wall, or even a parked vehicle even when the driver is obviously at fault. The same coverage pays when the other driver has hit you.

Lease or Loan Policy Coverage

The lease or loan policy coverage pays the difference between what you still owe on your vehicle and what your insurance pays if your vehicle was stolen and was not recovered. Less your Comprehensive or Collision deductible.

Uninsured Motorist

The coverage for the uninsured motorist covers the expenses for your injuries and the other driver’s injuries even when you are the one at fault. In some cases, this coverage will also pay for property damages caused by an uninsured driver who was at fault. This coverage is most useful when an unidentified driver in a hit-and-run collision has hit you.

Medical Expenses

Although the bodily injury liability coverage and the uninsured motorist coverage have already paid for the medical expenses of those involved in the car accident, this type of coverage will pay for the expenses that are not part of the liability limits of the auto insurance. However, the coverage will not pay for all of your medical expenses and the medical payments of the other driver and the passengers. There are certain limits set for each package.

A Unique Advantage Over The Others

Each car insurance company presents a unique advantage over the others. They would throw in an extra insurance coverage that would make it stand out from the rest of the crowd. These coverages would pay for damages to rental cars, problems with towing and roadside assistance, and loss of income due to the accident. One particular car insurance company even has a pet injury coverage that would pay for your pet’s medical expenses, or expenses incurred because of the animal’s death.
